James Patterson was born in 1947 in Newburgh, New York. He graduated summa cum laude with an MA in English from Vanderbilt University and then pursue a career in 1971 as a junior copywriter at J. Walter Thompson advertising agency. Since then, his career became better and at the age of 39 years and Patterson became the youngest creative director in the history of the company.
At the age of 27 years he published his first work, The Thomas Berryman Number, which was awarded Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Since then he has written several novels, but his fate changed overnight when Aling Came A Spider published in 1993, introducing the detective / black psychologist, Alex Cross. "Alex Cross novels are about a nightmare," he said, "a nightmare in real life." Kiss the Girls and Along Came A Spider was filmed with the same title, starring Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross.
